LAMUNE

SPACES    ART    FURNITURE

Antique wooden mask of unknown origin, carved with a highly reduced and architectural approach to the human face. The composition is frontal and balanced, defined by strict geometry and an intentional restraint in the rendering of facial features.

The eyes are narrow and horizontal, deeply incised into the surface, creating a quiet and introspective expression. A strong vertical nose structures the face, while the mouth is subtly suggested, avoiding narrative or theatrical expression. The result is a calm, hieratic presence that feels timeless and deliberate.

The surface shows a deep, natural patina, with visible tool marks, abrasions, and softened edges consistent with age and prolonged handling. Small cracks, tonal variations, and surface irregularities are present and should be understood as integral to the object’s history and material honesty, not as imperfections.

Originally conceived as a functional or ritual object, the mask now reads as a sculptural form in its own right. Mounted on a contemporary metal base for display, it transitions seamlessly into a modern context while retaining its sense of gravity and authenticity.

Its reduced language, tactile surface, and strong presence make it particularly suitable for curated interiors, galleries, or collections that value primitive aesthetics, wabi-sabi sensibility, and objects shaped by time.
